Guitar Galleries
This project began some two and half years ago with a group of photographs I took to use as exemplar material for a Sixth Form student who was struggling with a brief I had set him. I used a very primitive digital camera. The pictures were of the student's Epiphone Les Paul Junior copy. My appetite whetted, I moved on and using the family 'point and shoot' a Kodak DX7630 began photographing my guitars at home. Having to give up teaching as a result of Ill-health in 2008, I used the project as a distraction as well as a means of creating a sense of identity while I adjusted to the change in my circumstances. It was at this point I realised that I needed better optics if I was to obtain the kind of images I was really after. I moved up to the Canon EOS 450D, with which about half of the shots on this site have been taken. I added a Canon EF 70 - 300mm zoom lens, but apart from a tripod, I have used no other equipment.
Navigate in the normal way, selecting the menu or gallery you wish to see by clicking on the hyperlink or thumbnail. When the galleries open, select the image you wish to look at. It will open in a pop up window. You can browse the galleries looking at images in any sequence or alternatively leave the pop up window on the screen and by clicking the arrow button see images in slideshow format, the order they appear on the page.
Some of the images in guitar galleries two, three and four are set to open at higher resolution to give a better idea of picture quality.
I have also included four galleries of other work.
I am always on the lookout for interesting guitars to photograph; or even better, whole collections! Please use the contact page link on the main menu.
Thanks go to my long-suffering family, Anthony Wimshurst (without who...) Russell Denial, Keith Powell , Rob Martin of RMA and anyone else who has been brave enough to let me loose on their treasured guitars.
